Plastic Plates:Ayyappa devotees on a green pilgrimage

About 80 pilgrims to Sabarimala near Chennai Central station here Friday afternoon. The Green t-shirts instead of the characteristic saffron or black, requested pilgrimages and more environmentally friendly plastic commodity at home to Ayyappa.

More and more people use plastic products on the way to Sabarimala.

This can range from irumudi in plastic bags and plastic plates, packs of crisps and biscuits. But not much attention that the plastic item is removed carefully with the pilgrimage. This causes serious environmental damage to the road,  said Srijith Namboothiri Eco Pilgrimage Trust, the driving force behind the initiative.

He also stressed that even those who have plantain leaves for food causes injury to remove them from the river Pamba, which is the main source of drinking water for the pilgrimage. Eco-pilgrims who are not aware of the less attractive counterparts to life until the lights on the Pamba based on plastic boats, but instead to use the trademarks of their traditional plantain.

Join about 40 other pilgrims from ecological Bangalore, Ramnad region Allapey are those of Chennai on the road. Together, with banners and distributing leaflets in four languages across the path of pilgrimage.
